IDC Asia
@ Temasek Engineering School

Temasek Engineering School has set up the Interactive Digital Centre (IDC Asia)
-- the first and only such Centre in Asia, and only the 8th in the world.

IDC Asia will spearhead research, development and training in Interactive Digital Media (IDM),
in line with Singapore's "Media 21" plan to turn the country into a Global Media City".

Temasek Engineering School students can look forward to using millions of dollars worth of
high-end 3-dimensional equipment in IDC Asia as part of their training.

Students will also have opportunities to be attached to IDC Asia to research and work on
IDM-related projects.

IDC Asia houses state-of-the-art 3D innovative technologies and laboratories for training, research and development.

The Centre specialises in developing commercial 3D applications with powerful visual product configurations to support and improve the business and training programmes of companies in industries relating to medical, education, transportation, aerospace, architecture, construction and engineering.

For example, a company can reuse their existing 3D and 2D digital assets to create smart digital replicas of their product for product demonstration, sales & marketing applications, training and support applications. This re-use of such digital assets has led to Global 1000 companies maintaining an edge over their competitors. A snapshot of testimonials from these companies showed that it was possible to achieve 40% increased visitor retention on trade show floors, 15% increase in product sales and a reduction of up to 30% in service training.

Schools and educational institutions can also look forward to using these 3D interactive applications to teach and illustrate complex concepts, replacing a hundred words, literally, with one touch of the screen!

IDC Asia is part of Temasek Polytechnic's effort to support the Singapore government's blueprint to spur R&D in the fast-growing Interactive Digital Media market, currently worth $1.6 trillion worldwide. This is expected to expand to $4 trillion by the year 2015.

The IDC sector is also expected to create 10,000 new jobs in Singapore within the next decade.
