Final year students from the Diploma in Quailty Engineering and Management clinched a Silver and a Bronze Award at the prestigious National Quality Ciricles Convention 2002 held at SPRING (Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board) on 26 July 2002.

Applying the skills and latest quality enhancing techniques they have learnt in their Diploma course, the students analysed 2 common problems faced by students in campus daily.

Team Challenger analysed the problem of frequent loss of handphones in public areas. They came up with the solution of a mobile alert device attached to the handphone to remind users if they have left their phones behind.

Team Armstrong looked at how to improve student satisfaction in the Polytechnic. Identifying one cause of student dissatisfaction as the long waiting time for lifts, the team proposed putting up posters, puzzles and brain teasers to reduce students' anxiety while waiting for the lift. Another problem identified, the congestion in canteens during peak hours, would be solved by the installation of additional dividers and signages to facilitate proper queue formation.
