Engineering student, Tung Kok Chong, clinched the Gold Medal in the Education category of the 5th PTC ASEAN Awards competition held on 19 Aug 2005.

The competition, which attracted dozens of entries from tertiary institutions in Singapore and the ASEAN region, required participants to design a graphic model using any software developed by Product Development Company Inc. (PTC).

Using the software called Pro-Engineer, Kok Chong designed a replica of the Shimano Navi XT 500 fishing reel. His creation impressed the judges for its innovation, complexity of details, accuracy of dimensions, as well as aesthetics, giving him the top prize of US$350.

Said an elated Kok Chong of his victory: “The many useful features of Pro-ENGINEER allowed me to design a more complex model with high accuracy within a shorter time. Taking part in the competition indirectly helped me to fine-tune my problem solving skills, as I had to decide which application to use to achieve the desired effect.”
